Craftsmanship

At Alchemy Story, we are proud to collaborate with local artisans and small businesses that specialize in working with natural fibers and handicrafts. We strongly believe in promoting sustainable and ethical fashion. Our partnerships are built on the foundation of supporting these artisans and businesses who are dedicated to preserving traditional crafts and using environmentally-friendly materials.

Spinning

.

Wool is gathered during the spring season and primarily spun by hand. The process of spinning the yarn takes place using a local spinning wheel called the ‘Charkha’. Before spinning, the raw material undergoes treatment, including stretching and thorough cleaning to eliminate any impurities. It is then soaked in a mixture of rice and water for a few days to enhance its softness.

Hand-spinning is an incredibly meticulous task that demands exceptional patience, skill, and unwavering dedication. Observing this process is truly captivating, as artisans showcase their remarkable dexterity and passion for their craft.

Knitting/Weaving

The weaving process varies depending on the type of Cashmere product being created. Different looms are used to weave Cashmere shawls, stoles, mufflers, scarves, blankets, and sweaters. Each product requires a specific amount of Cashmere and other natural fibers and, consequently, varying amounts of time for completion.

Handloom fabrics are exquisite textiles crafted through the meticulous art of handweaving on a loom. This intricate process involves intertwining a set of vertical threads known as the ‘warp’ with a set of horizontal threads called the ‘weft’.

To bring this process to life, the loom securely holds the warp threads under tension, enabling the skilled weaver to skillfully interweave the weft threads over and under the warp using a weaving shuttle. Through countless repetitions of this technique, the beautiful handloom fabric takes form.

Handloom weaving is not only a means of livelihood but also a labor of love. It demands a high degree of patience, artistry, technical expertise, and even physical strength. At the core of this artistry lies the weaver’s skilled hands, which carefully select the yarn, pattern, color, texture, and precise techniques necessary to achieve their desired aesthetic.

Dyeing Process

The dyeing process of Natural Fibre products is meticulously carried out by hand, with each piece dyed individually. Skilled dyers with extensive experience and remarkable patience are entrusted with this task, as even the slightest oversight can impact the quality of the final product.

To ensure environmental friendliness, only metal and azo-free dyes are utilized in the dyeing process. Additionally, the water used for dyeing is sourced from deep underground, guaranteeing its purity. The dyeing is performed at a temperature slightly below boiling point, and the items are immersed for nearly an hour. Natural fiber possesses exceptional absorbency, allowing the dyes to permeate easily and deeply, resulting in vibrant and rich colors.

By exclusively working with natural fibers, such as cashmere, organic cotton, linen, silk, and wool, our partners prioritize sustainability and minimize the impact on the environment. They embrace the beauty of these materials, appreciating their durability and the unique textures they bring to each piece. These artisans possess exceptional skills passed down through generations, and their commitment to ethical practices ensures fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect for the dignity of every individual involved in the production process.

Through our collaborations, we strive to create a positive impact on the fashion industry by showcasing the beauty and value of handmade products while advocating for a more sustainable and ethical approach. We believe that fashion can be a force for good, empowering communities, supporting local economies, and preserving traditional craftsmanship. At Alchemy Story, we are dedicated to creating a more conscious and compassionate world through our commitment to sustainable and ethical fashion.
