A Brother and Sister’s Journey from a Small Hobby to a Brand with a Purpose

Every handmade piece has a story.

Ours began in 2018, not as a large company or a business plan, but as a simple hobby shared by a brother and sister who believed that beautiful products should be made with respect, for nature, for craftsmanship and for the people behind them.

Growing up with an appreciation for traditional textiles and natural fibres, we saw something that deeply concerned us. Around the world, handmade craftsmanship was slowly disappearing as mass production became the norm. Many skilled artisans who had spent decades mastering traditional weaving techniques were finding it increasingly difficult to compete with factory-made products.

We believed there had to be another way.

That belief became Alchemy Story.

Where It All Began

We started small.

Our first products were sold through local pop-up markets in Melbourne alongside our online store. Every order, every customer and every conversation helped us understand that people were looking for something more than another blanket or scarf.

They wanted products with meaning.

Products made by real people.

Products created from natural fibres that would last for years rather than seasons.

As our customers grew, so did our vision.

More Than Beautiful Products

From the beginning, our goal was never simply to sell textiles.

Our mission has always been to connect people with authentic handmade craftsmanship while creating sustainable opportunities for artisan communities in Nepal.

Today, every Alchemy Story cashmere throw and blanket is handcrafted by skilled artisans using traditional handloom techniques that have been passed down through generations.

These techniques cannot be rushed or replaced by machines.

Every thread reflects patience, skill and experience.

Standing Together During Difficult Times

When the world changed during the COVID-19 pandemic, many artisan communities faced an uncertain future.

Orders disappeared.

Tourism stopped.

Work became scarce.

For many families whose livelihoods depended on traditional weaving, it was one of the most difficult periods they had ever experienced.

During this time, our commitment became even stronger.

Rather than moving towards cheaper mass production, we continued supporting handmade production and worked closely with our artisan partners whenever possible.

That experience reinforced something we had always believed:

Why We Choose Handloom

Every Alchemy Story throw is woven using traditional handloom techniques in Nepal.

Unlike factory production, handloom weaving requires time, concentration and generations of knowledge.

Patterns such as herringbone, chevron, diamond and geometric designs are carefully woven by skilled artisans rather than produced by automated machines.

Because every throw is handmade, slight variations in texture, colour and weave are natural.

These are not imperfections.

They are the signature of genuine craftsmanship.

Working with Natural Fibres

We have always believed that natural fibres create products that feel better, last longer and age beautifully.

Our collection focuses on carefully selected cashmere blends that may include cashmere, merino wool, cotton and silk.

Each fibre plays an important role.

Cashmere provides luxurious softness and lightweight warmth.

Merino wool and cotton help create structure and volume.

Silk is used within the interlocking threads to strengthen the fabric while maintaining flexibility and durability.

The result is a throw designed to be enjoyed for many years.

Slow Fashion Is Our Choice

Many companies manufacture thousands of blankets every day.

That has never been our goal.

At Alchemy Story, we believe in slow fashion.

Most of our cashmere throws are made to order, allowing artisans to focus on quality instead of quantity.

Production generally takes 4–6 business days before each order is carefully prepared and shipped from our Melbourne warehouse.

Although this takes longer than mass-produced alternatives, it reflects our belief that truly handmade products should never be rushed.
